Lightbulb Date Poster

This brief was delivered in my first year at university and was to produce a poster which represented and included the numbers of a chosen date. I chose 1879, the year the lightbulb was commercially available.
I started by brainstorming ideas for the lightbulb date poster with a strong emphasis on the light producing shadows.
My favourite design features a bold lightbulb in the middle with a pattern behind it. However, I still considered different ideas to keep the experiments going.
These are mono prints done in varying amounts of ink. My favourite is the darkest one with the juxtaposition of the yellow tissue paper and the ink capturing the essence of a lightbulb whilst keeping it contextually relevant to the date.
I experimented with the shape of the lightbulbs since there were several designs but since I chose the date of when the lightbulb was commercially available I used the design which is still recognisable today. I realised the lines coming from the lightbulb would be very effective in Lino and also create some texture which will age the poster to make it more contextually relevant.
These are Lino prints which I experimented with by using different amounts of paint and paper.
I digitally applied colour and experimented with different shades of yellow to produce the more eye-catching poster.
Here is the final poster design, it is eye-catching and clearly demonstrates the date of when the lightbulb was commercially available.
